In recent years, the adoption of cryptocurrencies has surged globally, and the developing world is no exception. On the African continent, the next generation of workers and young adults are embracing digital innovation.
The sub-Saharan region, in particular, has seen tens of millions of people turn to emerging technology, such as blockchain, to understand its potential impact on financial inclusion, economic growth, and social empowerment.
As such, there is a growing need for education and awareness about blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, and their implications.
Learn Crypto, a leading platform dedicated to blockchain education and the world’s largest provider of free crypto learning, recognises the immense potential that Africa holds. With its rich cultural diversity, entrepreneurial spirit, and a young population eager to explore new opportunities, Africa is poised to become a significant player in the crypto landscape.
Learn Crypto recently sponsored two impactful seminars across African colleges and universities. These events brought together students, educators, industry experts, and crypto enthusiasts. Here’s what transpired:
Seminar 1: “Introduction to Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies”
Seminar 2: “Using Crypto, Wallets, and Trading”
Learn Crypto believes that education is an enabler for harnessing the potential of digital finance to bridge economic divides, and the seminar at the University of Calabar was a testament to this vision.
It emphasised how cryptocurrency can serve as a gateway for students to access global payment opportunities, allowing them to work with international clients and projects without the hindrance of traditional banking barriers.

VisitFinancial Inclusion: Africa has long faced challenges related to traditional banking infrastructure, limited access to global financial services, and high remittance costs. Educating students about how cryptocurrencies can bridge these gaps by providing secure, low-cost, and borderless transactions can empower them to participate in the global economy.
Youthful Population: Africa boasts a vibrant youth demographic. By equipping college and university students with crypto knowledge, we empower them to be early adopters, entrepreneurs, and advocates. These young minds can drive innovation, create startups, and contribute to the crypto ecosystem.
Economic Empowerment: Crypto education opens doors to various opportunities, including trading, investing, and blockchain development. By nurturing a crypto-literate generation, we foster economic empowerment and encourage self-reliance.
Technological Leapfrogging: Africa has a history of leapfrogging traditional technologies. Some economists believe that crypto adoption is prime for another leap, allowing Africans to bypass legacy financial systems and directly engage with decentralised networks.
Major Interest: Nigeria and Kenya are frequently ranked top in the world in terms of crypto-curiosity (CoinGape). Nigeria alone accounts for two-thirds of the continent’s crypto interest, while registering an annual growth of crypto volume of 9% in 2023 (Chainalysis).
Additional seminars, workshops, and online events are planned across more institutes of education in Africa. Learn Crypto’s goal is continued crypto literacy to empower Africa’s youth, foster innovation, and drive economic growth through crypto education.
