REVIEW: Blockchair -- Your all-in-one destination for Blockchain exploration

If you’ve ever felt knee-deep in the digital currency space, juggling multiple cryptocurrencies. With the burgeoning growth of digital currencies, the need for reliable blockchain explorers has catapulted to the forefront. One such rising player in the blockchain explorer sector is Blockchair. Apparently, it's supposed to be a cool tool for checking out blockchain data. I've heard a bit about blockchain before, but I'm definitely not an expert. Anyway, let's dive into my experience using Blockchair for the first time.

First impressions

When you land on the homepage, the first thing you notice is how clean and organised it looks. There's not a bunch of clutter or overwhelming text everywhere, which is nice. The colours are easy on the eyes too, nothing too flashy. It looks like a site that's easy to navigate, which is always a plus.

Signing up

It's always good to have an account so you can save your searches or whatever. The sign-up process was super straightforward. Just click on the "Sign Up" button, fill in some basic info like your email and password, and you’re in. No annoying verification emails or anything like that. Nice and easy.

User interface

The main interface is split into a few sections: Explorer, Analytics, API, and Widgets. Explorer seems like the main part of the site. It's basically a search bar where you can type in stuff like Bitcoin addresses, transaction hashes, or even specific blocks. 

Key features

Typed in a random Bitcoin address in the search bar, and it pulled up a bunch of info about it. Like when it was created, how many transactions it's been involved in, and so forth. There's even a graph showing the transaction history, which is pretty neat. And if you're into fancy charts and graphs, there's a whole section for that too under Analytics. You can analyse things like network growth, transaction volume, and even mempool size.

But the beating heart of Blockchair is the amoun of explorers it has.

Each explorer is easy to use and provides valuable insights into its respective blockchain network. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced blockchain enthusiast, there's something here for everyone.

• Block Explorer: The Block Explorer is like the heart of Blockchair. It's where you can search for specific blockchain data like addresses, transactions, or blocks. I tried searching for a random Bitcoin address, and it pulled up a bunch of information about it, like its balance, transaction history, and more. It's pretty intuitive to use, even for someone like me who's not super familiar with blockchain.

• Ethereum Explorer: Similar to the Block Explorer, but specifically for Ethereum. You can search for Ethereum addresses, transactions, or blocks, and it'll give you all the relevant data. I don't know much about Ethereum, but it seems like a handy tool for anyone who's into that stuff.

• Dogecoin Explorer: Okay, now we're getting into the fun stuff. Dogecoin! This explorer works just like the others, but it's specifically for everyone's favourite meme coin. I don't own any Dogecoin myself, but it's still fun to poke around and see what's out there.

• Bitcoin SV Explorer: Bitcoin SV is a controversial fork of Bitcoin, so we were interested to see what kind of data Blockchair has on it. The Bitcoin SV Explorer lets you search for addresses, transactions, and blocks, just like the other explorers. No surprises here.

• Ripple Explorer: Ripple is a bit different from traditional cryptocurrencies, so we were curious to see how Blockchair handles it. The Ripple Explorer lets you search for Ripple addresses and transactions, just like the other explorers. It's cool to see Blockchair supporting a variety of blockchain networks.

These are just a couple of the explorers we had the time to try out. But as we keep looking around, we'll update  this list.

Customer service

There is a "Support" button at the bottom of the page, so it's safe to assume they're pretty responsive if you need help with something. Always good to know they've got your back if anything goes wrong.

Pros and Cons

Pros

• Clean and easy-to-use interface: Seriously, navigating this site is a breeze.
• Tons of features: Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned blockchain pro, there's something here for everyone.
• No ads: I haven't seen a single ad yet, which is refreshing.
• Free to use: You don't have to pay a dime to access all these awesome tools.

Cons

• Steep learning curve: For someone like me who's new to blockchain, some of the terminology and features can be a bit overwhelming.
• Limited customer support: While I'm sure they're responsive, it would be nice to see more support options like live chat or a dedicated help center.
• Not mobile-friendly: I tried accessing the site on my phone, and it's definitely not optimized for mobile browsing. Not a huge deal for me, but might be annoying for some users.

The Verdict

It's a powerful tool with a lot of cool features, and the fact that it's free to use is a huge bonus. That being said, it's definitely geared more towards people who already have some knowledge of blockchain technology.
